Watan Card Project – Pakistan National Disaster Relief Program

Presentation to the CALP Network 4th Global Learning Event (Bangkok, February 2011) from the National Disaster Management Authority of the Government of Pakistan.  The presentation reviews the WATAN card cash transfer programme implemented by the Government to transfer money to flood affected people.

The presentation gives an overview of the planned response, the registration requirements and process, and the amounts disbursed by province.  It provides disaggregated data (for female headed households and households headed by a person with disabilities), and also data on redressals.

At the time of the presentation, over 27 million rupees had been disbursed to over 1.6 million beneficiary households, making the WATAN card programme the largest emergency cash transfer programme yet.
