Revitalising communities with cash grants
This case study gives an overview of the Red Crescent’s response programme in Bangladesh following the devastation caused by Hurricane Sidr in 2007. Part of the overall programme was the livelihoods programme, which helped community members to re-establish their livelihoods. The programme focussed on distributing conditional cash grants to enable beneficiaries to repair or replace their livelihood assets along with tailored skills training. This briefing documents the experience of the livelihoods programme and highlights good practice, key achievements, challenges faced and learning points. (An accompanying briefing, Rebuilding lives with shelter grants, summarises the work of its sister programme, the shelter programme.)
