Looking Back to Work Forward: CVA in the Americas

5 June 2024

Virtual

Background

Although humanitarian CVA is not new to the Americas, its use at scale and in various contexts throughout the region is a recent phenomenon. With at least five years of widespread humanitarian CVA in the Americas, there is an opportunity to review the maturity of the use of the tendencies, and where there could be more growth of CVA in the Americas.

To address this opportunity, CALP is conducting a review of the state of humanitarian CVA in the Americas from 2018 to 2023. The review will:

  • Help stakeholders gain perspective, celebrate achievements, recognize, and build enablers, address barriers and challenges, and provoke change.
  • Assist CALP in better supporting humanitarian action in the region. Make the experience and evidence on humanitarian CVA from the Americas more accessible to actors outside of the region and share examples that may be useful for other regions.

Event objectives

This review process includes an interactive online event where CALP’s network will contribute to the final report, particularly looking at the way forward for the humanitarian community.

This event will be conducted as a working session where you will be able to:

  • Reflect on humanitarian CVA in the Americas with the actors who have implemented it from 2018-2023.
  • Share the findings of the study thus far.
  • Explore the gaps in the evidence.

Together in small groups (you/we) will unpack and construct how humanitarian CVA can be more systematically diversely used in the region.

This event is mainly targeted to:

  • Actors who implement or have implemented humanitarian CVA in the Americas.
  • Humanitarian actors who support CVA in the Americas (i.e., donors, private sector, government, technical advisors, operations experts).

Date and time

  • Wednesday, June 5th, at 9:30 AM Bogota / 10:30 Washington DC / 14:30 UCT for 90 minutes.

Language

The event will be in Spanish, with interpretations in French and English. It will not be recorded; please join us then!
