Cash Modalities in Migration Programming in the Sahel
The broad objective of this research project is to find out if and how cash transfer programming impacts migrants’ decisions to migrate and demonstrate the substantial impact of cash use in the Red Cross movement’ humanitarian response (and beyond) in three countries, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mauritania.
The four key objectives of the project are:
1. Clear up the perception around cash in migration and whether and how cash modalities impact migration
2. Explore and assess the appropriateness of unrestricted cash for people on the move and under which contextual conditions restrictions or conditions could be considered.
3. Assess the value for money (VfM) for using cash modalities versus in-kind assistance
4. Draw lessons from current experiences and generate recommendations
