Rapid Assessment for market report : West Kenya and Informal settlements in Kenya.

Two locations namely Mathare and Kibera slums in Nairobi as well as Kisumu, Migori and Homabay counties in West Kenya were affected by post election skirmishes after the Kenya General Elections of 8th August 2017. In September 2017 Kenya Red Cross conducted a post crisis market assessment to establish how markets in these affected areas functioned at the time and also to find out how the markets would operate during and after the repeat presidential elections in October 2017.

The assessment findings showed that markets were disrupted in Kisumu, Migori and Homabay counties and would still be affected in(during and after) the October 2017 elections period. But in Nairobi the markets were good and people would access basic commodities and services though at escalated prices in shops and markets within their proximity and wide markets within Nairobi. The preferred cash delivery mode is mobile money for all the areas visited
