Afghanistan: Hawala cash transfers for food assistance and livelihood protection
In response to repeated flooding, ACF implemented a cash-based intervention in the Samangan and Day Kundi Provinces of Afghanistan. The project applied cash for work activities as well as unconditional cash transfers and made use of the local Hawala system to securely transfer money to beneficiaries. The cash was meant to provide access to basic needs and support livelihood asset maintenance. ACF’s programming aimed to empower women and helped re-establish destroyed community infrastructures.
