Evaluation Brief: Experience and Learning from Pilots of Good Practices in Humanitarian Market Analysis

2018 — By Emily Sloane

As part of the “Improving the Uptake of Humanitarian Market Analysis” project, the IRC, CRS and Mercy Corps teamed up to pilot practices that were thought to help humanitarian teams better understand and use market information in programming. In Niger and Nigeria, IRC and CRS teams explored how incorporating non-price indicators into market monitoring could provide a more comprehensive picture of local markets to program teams, while in Uganda, Mercy Corps developed a forum for humanitarian, development and private sector actors to collaborate on market analysis in preparation for an upcoming emergency response. This brief describes the approaches taken in the pilots, along with resulting learning and recommendations for those interested in replicating the practices.
