New Common Cash System Announced by WFP, UNHCR, UNICEF and OCHA

On 5 December 2018 WFP, UNHCR, UNICEF and OCHA announced the launch of a joint system for the design, delivery and monitoring of cash assistance.

5 December 2018

This is a welcome step towards improved collaboration between United Nations agencies, with the potential to increase the effectiveness, efficiency and accountability of UN cash operations and better support those affected by humanitarian crises.

Given the pivotal role of the UN agencies in the wider humanitarian ecosystem, the roll-out of the new UN cash system will have significant implications for the humanitarian community as a whole. Open and constructive dialogue will be key to the success of this important initiative. We look forward to working with our 80+ members – UN agencies, the Red Cross/ Red Crescent movement, NGOs, donors and the private sector – to ensure that the development of this platform reflects the best of our collective learning and expertise and keeps the needs and preferences of crisis-affected people at its heart. We will be in touch with further information as we hear it and options for how you can make your views heard. We look  forward to hearing your feedback.
