95 Organisations Sign Letter Calling for Strengthened Cash Coordination
The signatories to this letter are pushing for effective coordination in order to maximize the potential and impact of humanitarian cash on crisis-affected populations. The signatories are seeking an agreement that provides accountable, predictable coordination of humanitarian cash, including how it relates to response analysis, within the broader humanitarian coordination architecture.
Ninety-five entities signed onto the letter, including 15 donors, 57 NGOs (national, regional and international), 5 private sector actors, 4 Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement entities, 13 research, technical and/or standards organizations, and one UN agency.
The letter states:
“The lack of predictable and accountable coordination arrangements for humanitarian cash continues to hamper the scale, quality and timeliness of humanitarian response leading to a direct impact on the people we aim to serve.
In a context where conflict, climate and COVID-19 are exacerbating humanitarian needs globally we can no longer ignore the cost and implications of the lack of cash coordination and the clear opportunities for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian responses. “
The Call for Action letter was sent to the Emergency Relief Coordinator (ERC) by the CALP Network and USAID on behalf of all the signatories. The CALP Network and USAID sent the letter as they are the co-leads of the Grand Bargain Cash Sub-workstream on Tackling Political Blockages where the Call for Action was initiated.
When sending the letter, the CALP Network and USAID highlighted the need for an inclusive decision making process that embraces the diversity of organisations that signed the letter.
