Humanitarian Leadership Conference: panel discussion on ‘The urgent need to accelerate progress on CVA for people in crisis’

27 April 2023

Online.

CALP will be leading a panel discussion as part of the Humanitarian Leadership Conference focused on the urgent need to accelerate progress on CVA for people in crisis. After a brief introduction to some of the findings from the Scaling CVA report (published by CALP in December), panellists will explore what needs to be done to scale up CVA effectively. Given CVA is only about 19% of international humanitarian assistance at present, and research shows that it could reach up to 50% if used where / when appropriate, the question begs – what will it take to get there.

After an introductory presentation by the Director of CALP, Karen Peachey, the panel discussion will be chaired by Dr. Miriam Opwonya Laker, Global Director of Research, Give Directly and Member of the CALP Board.  The panellists are:

  • Maireng Sengebau, Executive Director, Palau Red Cross Society.
  • Sweta Kannan, Division for International Humanitarian Organisations and Multilateral Policy on Humanitarian Assistance, German Federal Foreign Office.
  • Manu Moncada, Global Cash and Voucher Assistance Adviser, Office of Emergencies and Resilience, FAO.
