Cash Coordination Next Steps: An important meeting for humanitarian leaders

USAID and the CALP Network, as co-facilitators of the Tackling Political Blockages sub-workstream within the Grand Bargain, are convening a meeting of senior leaders to discuss the development of a future-ready cash coordination architecture.

The meeting builds on the Call for Action letter that was signed by 95 senior leaders representing local and international NGOs, donors, the UN and research and technical entities. The letter was delivered to the Emergency Response Coordinator (ERC), Mark Lowcock, in June 2021 and recently re-submitted to the new ERC, Martin Griffiths. This collective initiative galvanized efforts to bring high-level attention to this system-wide problem which significantly impacts response effectiveness.

A number of developments have taken place since the letter was originally sent – including the proposed formation of a cash coordination caucus. It is critical that all stakeholders continue to be involved in these discussions and we continue the momentum to ensure that IASC decision-making on the coordination architecture maximizes the positive outcomes of cash for crisis-affected populations.
